I believe that every student has the ability to learn and teach from one another. I believe that it is my role as a teacher to provide my students with endless support and opportunities for exploration, extending their knowledge and experiences, to implement and inspire students to risk take and problem solve in their learning, teach and encourage independence in and out of school.
Every child is capable of learning and improving on their ability to learn academically and socially. I believe that every student I teach will have the opportunity to explore, experience and gain new knowledge in whatever is being taught. For this to succeed in my classroom and teaching I will ensure that I have good and clear communication to and from students, prompt and initiate problem solving and encourage independence. I also believe that students should always respect one another and challenge themselves to the best of their abilities.
Throughout my degree I have learnt and gain a better understanding that establishing a strong relationship with my students will help create a good foundation for learning. I believe that getting to know your students, their abilities, interest and background from day one will allow me to be the best teacher I can be.
Being knowledgeable across all learning areas is something I believe strongly a teacher should strive for. I believe it enables me to provide, plan and teach learning experiences for my students, that are both relevant and engaging. In my classroom I would encourage my students to use critical thinking, good questioning, problem solving, prior experiences and independence. I believe that every student learns differently and providing tasks that are suited to their abilities but also challenging for them will ensure that students have the opportunity to use their knowledge, imagination and creativeness.
When it comes to assessing students’ knowledge, ability and skill, I will always consider the assessments being done will allow my students to show multiple ways of what they know where it is relevant and necessary. I believe that being flexible in assessments at times will not only allow students to show their abilities but also to explore others. I also believe when teaching a new skill, it should be scaffolded so that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
