- The school contains classes from kindergarten to Year 12.
- There are approximately 260 children in the school.
- Class numbers are low, Majority of the year levels only consist of one class.
- Majority of the population in this school are Malay or Chinese
Parent & Community
- There is some parent involvement in the class when activities such as math rotations.
- The community is involved throughout the school, whether it be fund raising or school events.
Staff
- Mixture of new and old staff throughout the school.
- 60 staff members, this includes teaching staff, support staff, admin staff and cleaning staff.
- Specialist Music, Art, Drama, HPE, ICT, DNT, Home economics and LOTE teachers.
Resources
- Every primary class have I-pads for every student in the classroom.
- Secondary students have Mac Book laptops.
- Internet is accessible (Internet can cut out due to issues with connection)
CLASS PROFILE
The year fours at Indian District High School consist of 19 students in the class, 8 males, 11 females, with 1 female teacher and 1 -2 education assistance throughout the week.
Student Background
A high number of students with multicultural backgrounds, with Malay and Chinese heritage being most predominant. Therefore, there are quite a few students who can speak other languages, some require some assistance in the classroom to work in English. I.D.H.S is a middle to high socio-economic and most students come from this background.
Abilities
There are a mix of abilities in the classroom when it comes to all learning areas. For example, for spelling the students are grouped to their spelling level and put into groups of their spelling stage. Each group has their own spelling words and activities they complete. Throughout assessing students’ abilities across all learning areas have been used to allocate and cater for the different ability groups.
Behaviour
There are no major behaviour concerns in the classroom. However, with the main focus and energy is mainly focused on listening to instructions and successfully completing work on time. There is a process in place for students with bad behaviour and this is explained on the first day of term so that all students are aware of the consequences of bad behaviour.
